Gwinnett Senior Golden Olympics Meeting September 18, 2006
First 2007 Season Meeting
Welcome back Everyone! Our President Al Sandham called our meeting to order. This is the kick off meeting for the 2007 Olympics. The attendance was good.
Our treasurer, Eileen, gave her report. The close out balance for 2006 was $5489.60. To start the 2007 Olympics, we have a balance of $6040.78. Eileen suggested we plan a budget to follow. She also requested we freeze donations for the rest of the year. We ruled to wait to make a motion.
Donations for 2007 are expected to be similar to those of 2006. Our annual donors have been Delmar Gardens, Walton EMC, Wal-Mart of Buford, Wal-Mart of Lilburn, Aetna, Scientific Atlanta, Promina Health and Gwinnett Sr. Council. Their donations have made it possible for us to provide for 301 seniors to participate in fellowship, fun and exercise. We deeply appreciate your donations.
We are now operating the Olympics in a very professional manner. For the future the participating Athletes are the members of the Gwinnett Senior Golden Olympics and will have all voting privileges of the organization.
Election of new officers was concluded at the closing ceremonies of the 2005 games and the officers for the two years (including this coming year) are presently the same. There will be the opportunity to elect or re-elect officers, according to our by-laws, at the closing meeting of the 2007 games.
All venue managers did an excellent job at running the program. If you would like to volunteer again for next year, please let us know. We would like to have all venues defined and the manager assigned within the next two months. Please step up if you are interested. New volunteers are always welcome. It really is fun work!
Now for the New Business:
Dates for the 2007 games will be April 20 to May 11, 2007. Our wrap-up meeting will be May 21, 2007. No meetings in June/July/August of 2007.
We may have to raise the entrance fee to $15 instead of $10. If we have to, it will still be a bargain for entrance fee, 2 meals, a gift, t-shirt and all the games you want to participate in. Pam has also volunteered to help with the printing and mailing of our brochures. Since our attendance has grown, so has our expense. So we were so pleased when Pam volunteered her support.
Some of the members suggested we change the menu. So we have chosen a food committee, Doug, Marie, Al and Elaine to look into different caterers.
Also, we would like to choose a medal committee to handle all the medals and taking the pictures of the winners receiving them.
Now that many seniors are downsizing and unable to store equipment and materials in their homes, we will need to rent a storage area for Senior Olympic stuff. Al will look into it for us.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR! October 17, 2006 is “fun day at Del-Mar” Another important date is Friday, October 27, 2006 “Gwinnett Health Fair”.
There was no further business so our President adjourned the meeting.
Sincerely,
Marie Hickman, Secretary
