Gwinnett Senior Golden Olympics 6/19/06 Meeting
Final Meeting for 2006 Games
Our President, Al Sandham, called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. He announced 2006 was a record year, 301 applications were received. Feedback was that everyone had a wonderful time!
Our treasurer, Eileen, gave her report. At the completion of the 2006 games, we have a balance of $6,263.76. Expenses were $12,000 plus. We are waiting for any other receipts that need to be reimbursed to be turned in for the final totals.
Our next Senior Olympics meeting will be September 18, 2006. We will continue to have our Wednesday Sports club in July and August. It will be held at Bethesda Senior Center because of the scorching hot temperatures. June’s temperature was 95 degrees; it was very uncomfortable weather to play in.
For those interested in going on to State Competition, it will be held at Warner Robins, GA from September 27-30, 2006. Applications must be in by August 1, 2006. Call the center for more information.
All venue managers for the 2006 games are to be complimented on their exceptional handling of the venues. Having volunteers for venues is necessary to keep the sport on our list for 2007. We always welcome new volunteers as we may want to have new games to participate in.
Door prizes: We had a good offering this year and want to thank everyone who participated in collecting them and a special thank you to those that donated them.
We will discuss this further at our next meeting.
Field Games: We may require some coordinating to run the games more efficiently than they did this year. We may choose a traffic manager to over see all games. This too, will be discussed at our next meeting. And bowling needs a few changes in the rules concerning ties and for late comers. So we are hoping that we will have a nice attendance at our September meeting so that we could hear everyone’s input and comments. Please plan to attend, September 18th. Hope to see you there.
One sad note, which I was sorry to hear, our dear friends Martha Griffith and Paul Chang passed away. They were an inspiration to all seniors young and old and truly will be missed by all.
Have a great summer! Sincerely,
Marie Hickman, Secretary
