Gwinnett Senior Golden Games Meeting

June 16, 2008

Bob, our President, called our meeting to order. He welcomed our members, followed by a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. The minutes of the last meeting were read. Bob had a special announcement to make.  He advised us that Eileen is unable to continue her duties as treasurer at this time and chose to resign.  We were sorry to hear she is not feeling well and needs plenty of rest and less responsibility for now. He has appointed Chris Moore to be our new treasurer.  Chris was a Member at Large on the board and is willing to accept her position.  Bob appointed Cleo Davis to assume Chris Moore’s position. Then Chris gave the treasurer’s report.  Our balance is $12,330.91.

We went on to discuss plans for next year’s Gwinnett Senior Golden Games.  The opening and closing meetings will be held at Rhodes Jordan Park since we have over- grown Bethesda Park. The gym can hold 550 people. We are looking at  Opening date,  Wednesday April 15th and closing May 13, 2009 (unless we choose to extend the games another week).  Some athletes wanted to sign up for 2 sports that were held on the day. We will discuss that along with the comment sheets at our September Meeting.

Also, year 2009 will be our 10th year anniversary so it is time to up grade our old medals.  We would like to put our logo on the medal and Pam suggested something on the back to describe the sport. Larry suggested we post the rules of each game on the website so that the athletes could have an idea how our games are played.  Bob also touched on the Golf date set for April 29, 2009. Parc will host the bridge tournament, new rules for shuffleboard and Rhodes Jordan Park is installing 12 horseshoe courts hopefully in time for our senior games. We really are growing and need to provide for our active seniors. The Gwinnett Visitors Bureau wants to get involved and the State Senior Olympics have even mentioned moving to Gwinnett County.

At our Executive meeting this morning we discussed our donations this year and voted on them.  We will be donating $250 to FOGSCS, $100 to Georgia Games, be a sponsor at torch level; $400 to the Children’s Shelter and $400 to Bethesda Senior Center to buy a Nintendo Wii with a fitness program.

Bob suggested a reception for all the venue managers to thank them for the wonderful job they did handling their events.  Everyone thought that was an excellent idea.  We will discuss details at a later meeting.

There weren’t anymore questions or comments about the senior games, so Bob announced our next meeting will be September 15th.  Please note:  No meetings in July and August.

See you Monday September 15th.  Have a fun-filled summer and stay cool!

                                                                        Sincerely,

                                                                   Marie Hickman, Secretary
