Gwinnett Senior Golden Games 2008
Closing Meeting May 14, 2008
Today is the last day of our exciting and successful Senior Games program. Everyone seemed very happy with the games, the meals, the prizes and overall running of the event. We want to especially thank Eileen, Bob, Susie and Larry Hanna for their hard work and loyalty to making this year’s games more organized and creating new forms for easier tabulating of scores.
Our meeting started with the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag, then a warm welcome to all our participants and special guests. Bob thanked everyone for helping to make the Golden Games a great success; especially the venue managers and he added, it is not too early to sign up for next year.
There was a Medal ceremony for the Shuffleboard winners. We had shuffleboard at two locations this year so we had to tally all scores to address the winners.
Our business meeting followed. Our Senior Games require two meetings a year. The opening and closing ceremonies were our yearly meetings with an attendance of over 370 members. We also have monthly meetings for the board and any members that would like to join us to plan for our event. These meetings are held the 3rd Monday each month. The minutes of the Opening Meeting were read and the treasurer gave her report. The balance is $14,000 before final bills are paid. We will have a more accurate balance at our June meeting.
Bob mentioned that next year is election year and we should be thinking about nominations for the Board positions which are: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and 2 members at large. As a board member you should be willing to attend all meetings, including extra board meetings. You will need to contact Bud, the Chairman of Nominations if interested.
When the meeting ended, we had a delicious box lunch from Firehouse Subs and also we want to thank Life Care of Lawrenceville for providing the drinks. Lunch was followed by Door Prizes. Dana and Susie called winning ticket numbers and handed out wonderful prizes, to those that were present. We also handed out comment sheets to be filled out. We always welcome new ideas to improve our Senior Games. Of course, it is always nice to hear what we are doing right too. So take a minute to fill it out.
We will have a general meeting on June 16, 2008 to clean up odds and ends and discuss the comment sheets. So come join us.
Have a great summer!
Sincerely,
Marie Hickman, Secretary
