Gwinnett Senior Golden Olympics

                               Meeting Minutes 4/16/07

 

Al Sandham, our President, opened the meeting.  Eileen, our treasurer, gave her report. Our new balance is $11, 568.84.  Total deposits $16,906.67, paid out $5,338.27 for medals, lapel pins and 1st Aid Kits.

 

The minutes of the last meeting were not read but were posted on the website to review.

 

Opening dinner. Lunch will be 100 chicken & 200 (Med) steaks served on first come first served basis.  Walter Leen suggested we take a poll on that and it was confirmed.   Red T-shirts will be given to everyone and the Venue Managers will be receiving a Brown polo shirt. Shirts will be picked up by Dana Dow.  The food committee will set up for LongHorn catering for both opening and closing.

 

Al explained prizes to be given. Diane got a YMCA membership donated plus many other lovely gifts. Thanks Diane for your time, effort and results.

 

Elections will be held at closing ceremonies.  Unfortunately, Al Sandham announced he will not run for President this term. He has been our President for 8 years and feels it is time for change and has taken on other challenging positions.  Be he is not leaving us completely.  He will remain with the Olympics as a Member at Large.  Nominations will take place at the opening meeting.

 

Sharon Plunkett, Director of Parks & Recreation (Gwinnett) will go over the by laws.

 

National Senior Games will be held in Louisville, KY June 22-July 8.

 

Larry Hanna was complimented on the great job he did on Venue Manager Packages and he will continue doing this for us next year and doing our website,  http://www.gwinnettseniorolympics.org/

 

Envelopes for people that don’t attend the opening will be held @ Bethesda Center unless the Venue Manager wants to distribute theirs.

 

Digital pictures will be put on the Website and in a scrapbook and scores will be posted at the  Bethesda Senior Center.

 

$20 will be allotted for venue refreshments with receipts furnished, given to Eileen.

 

Table tennis practice can be arranged thru Bethesda with an advance call.

 

Lunch (pizza) will be served at inside field games.

 

Awards will not be distributed until all field games are completed.  No rain checks or games rained out ½ thru are cancelled.

 

Breakfast will be served at closing, then a short meeting followed by games.

 

Johnny Webb made an Olympic symbol for opening ceremony.  Over $1400 was spent on medals. We would appreciate if you will donate any extras you don’t want to keep.

 

Al made an announcement about one of the new organizations he is involved in.  It is FOGS (Friends of Gwinnett Seniors) They are having a Silent Auction on 7/26 to raise funds.  It will be held @ Delmar Gardens at 6 p.m.  $15 in advance, $20 at the door; Open Bar, Food. The theme is “Night in the Wild” Balloon rides, week-end trip, dinners, etc will be auctioned off. FUN FOR ALL

 

A motion was made to end the meeting by Charles Eubanks, seconded by Dana Dow.
