Gwinnett Senior Golden Olympics

Meeting Minutes 3/19/07

Our President was away so our treasurer, Eileen conducted our March meeting.

The Secretary’s Report was read and corrected. Eileen, our treasurer, gave her report.

Deposits were $5,038.00, Withdrawals were 1,075.67 and the Balance is $12,360.67.

We were pleased to have with us today, guests from Forsyth County who are interested in our Olympic Games. Welcome Elizabeth and Laura.

New business:  Our applications are rolling in.  As of today, we have 306, passing last year’s total and we still have l2 days to go. We have 240 signed up for the Opening Ceremony meal and 212 for the Closing Ceremony meal. The Senior Center only holds 275 so make sure you get your application in by March 31st. We made up 1100 booklets and have run out, so please pass on any extra you may have.

Eileen is excited about our new computer program. She announced that Larry Hanna is doing a great job with Web Master; everything is up to date for our packets and reports will be posted much sooner along with all the winners.  Our top sponsors will receive a framed certificate. Little changes like the partner’s age box have helped move applications along more smoothly. Larry mentioned more changes to the form for next year. With our growing attendance and more seniors willing to participate, we really appreciate the time and effort Larry and his son has given us to speed up and improve our Golden Olympics record system.

Susie announced that the manager’s packets will be ready by April 10th and can be picked up at the Senior Center. Most of the packets will have rules how to play the game, new score sheets and a sheet to list the winners. Also, we will need action shots for our future booklets and group medal pictures.  If anyone enjoys taking pictures please bring your camera and show us your talent.

Bob announced that our next meeting will be April 16th.  Make sure he has your medal count for him by then.  Many athletes were generous enough to donate some of their many medals to our Senior Olympics so that we could cut back on the number of medals we buy.  This year we will be spending around $800. So if you would like to donate some of your medals, we would love to use them to excite many of our new senior athletes.

Judith read a list of some of the door prizes. Everyone was excited. I guarantee that you will love these prizes.  Just hope that your ticket number is called.  If you are one of the lucky ones, when your number is called, you may choose any prize that is still available.  There are over 50 prizes. So Good Luck to all that are attending.

A nominating committee was chosen for the election of new officers.  Doug is the Chairman and Dianne Knight and Marie Hickman will assist him in getting nominations.

Elaine talked about Registration.  She mentioned she wants 3 boxes with helpers.

Eileen asked Doug to report on the Food Committee. To make sure we have at least 2 serving lines and 5 serving the food, so that there is not too much waiting and also to make sure we have utensils. Elaine said she would direct the traffic.

Doug brought a sample of the First Aid Kits and everyone was pleased.  Bob brought in samples of the pin. They are beautiful.  There are going to be extras at a small charge in case you go to the State Olympics and want to trade for other county pins.

On the attendance sheet today, we asked the venue managers to write down their sizes for  the venue manager’s shirts. Those who did not attend, we will call.  We would like to get the T-shirts ordered earlier if possible.

On April 19th the Senior Council will have an event at our Senior Center from 1:30-3:30. We will have an Olympic table at this event. After the event, we are planning to set up for our Olympics. If anyone is going to this extravaganza, please stick around to give us a hand setting up for our 2007 Senior Olympics Games. We could use the help.  Thank you.

Registration will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Friday April 20th. This is going to be the most exciting Olympics ever!  So be sure not to be left out, get your application in NOW!

Our next Meeting is April 16, 2007.  The closing ceremony will contain our May Meeting and there will be a June (clean up) Meeting.

3 announcements:

 (1) Jennifer, from Delmar Gardens will host our Senior Sports Club starting May 23rd. She is providing a light lunch and it will be held at Delmar Gardens

rather than Ronald Reagan Park. She it hoping it will attract more of the seniors at Delmar to participate and will become more active with our seniors and have fun.

(2) The Atlanta Senior Olympics will be starting when our games will be ending.  If anyone is interested Bob could fill you in with more details or you can check the internet.

(3) Some of us have been using the Senior Center’s printer for making copies. It was suggested that we make a donation to help defray the cost of the ink.

Susie made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Doug seconded it. See you at the next meeting on April 16th.

                                                            Sincerely,

                                                            Marie Hickman, Secretary
