Gwinnett Senior Golden Games Meeting
March 17, 2008
Bob, our President, called our meeting to order. He welcomed all our members, followed by a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. We had a very nice attendance.
The minutes of the last meeting were read. They were approved and accepted as read.
Eileen gave the treasurer’s report. Our balance is $17,667.56. Wal-mart stores have been very generous to us. We are still expecting more donations according to the promises sponsors have made to us.
Bob announced we have a total of 409 participants in this year’s senior games. Our opening and closing ceremonies are going to be packed. So volunteers please come early. Last year we had 349 athletes. This year we have 409 registered, an increase of 60 people. This is a good problem, so Welcome to all our athletes. Next year we may have to move to Rhodes Jordan Park for a larger seating arrangement for our opening and closing meetings. Meal tickets will be given to all those that checked the boxes saying they would attend the opening and closing ceremonies. Because we will be serving 380 meals, it is very important that you have a ticket to be served. There will be 3 serving lines so it should move rather quickly. No extra people get in the door without a ticket, so please leave last minute friends at home. There just won’t be any room to accommodate them. Eileen and Susie had to make over 100 phone calls to get needed information to complete all the packets and arrangements. So please look over the application and fill everything in before you mail it next year. Thank you.
Managers will have a worksheet in their packets so please use them. If you need help, ASK any of the board members. We need to organize our athletes by age, male or female, and we must give a total of all medals needed to Doug, so that he could have them ready for us. We are still taking medals from former outstanding athletes that have too many to count and are willing to donate them back to our senior games. After we have our final correct winners, we must send them to Chris Moore. You will be able to check the Web page for up to date information.
Our door prizes will be handled differently this year. A ticket number will be called and whatever prize is being offered, that is the prize you win. There isn’t room this year to walk around tables and chose what you prefer.
Eileen passed around a volunteer sheet for the Tuesday before the opening to come in and help to set up. We didn’t get too many volunteers on the applications, so if you can help please talk to Eileen.
Registration will be in the atrium of the senior building.
The opening meeting will start at 11:00 a.m. Sharp. We will have a torch carrier. This year it will be Marie Joseph.
There wasn’t any more business to discuss so Bob adjourned the meeting. This will be our last general meeting before our opening meeting. So good luck to everyone and have a fun time. Let the Senior Games Begin!
Sincerely,
Marie Hickman, Secretary
