Gwinnett Senior Golden Olympics Meeting Minutes

February 20, 2006

Our President, Al Sandham, called the meeting to order.  He announced our sessions for the 2006 Olympics are moving along according to our planning.  All scheduling has been finalized and the application booklets have been printed and mailed.  Thanks to Eileen and Susie for their efforts to make this process run smoothly.

Eileen, our Treasurer, gave her report.  Our balance this month is $8,586.35; four new contributions were added.

Some of the details we covered were choosing a special gift for each participant and planning to purchase at least 30 door prizes.  Our meals are set for opening and closing ceremonies and I am sure you will love the entertainment we have chosen this year.

Al went through our list of Venue Managers for each sport and everyone is in place. We always have room for volunteers so if interested, check the box on your application.  Also, if signing up for bowling, add your partner’s name and your ages.  The senior center is open on Saturdays now so if you need shuffleboard practice, come on over. No person will be added after the final registration date, unless it’s to complete a doubles team.  This will give us time to make up the competition lists so get your application in early. Again, the dates for the 2006 games will be Friday, April 21 to Friday, May 19th.  If a game happens to be rained out, it will not be rescheduled; so sign up for more than one game.

Susie has updated a list of the general rules of play for our Olympics.  These are aside from the specific rules for each sport.  They will be finalized before the games begin.

Elaine Shiver will organize the Opening Ceremonies.  If you would like to help, please contact Elaine directly.

Judith Eubanks will organize the door prizes for opening day; all items that members get for donations should be coordinated with her. Judith’s number is 678-985-8692.  If you patronize the same beauty shop, grocery store, doctor office or anywhere you are “a regular” customer, please ask for a donation or something to add to our goodie bags.  Diane Knight will be responsible for the  goodie bags.

We want to thank Billye Jo for preparing posters for our entry form displays.  They look GREAT! Billye Jo.  They are sure to catch the eyes of some new athletes for our Olympics.   Also, some of us will be going down to the Atlanta Senior Olympics Games.  They need volunteers to teach Shuffleboard May 23-24.  If interested, call Bob or Al.

Speaking of Bob, our dear friends, Eileen and Bob Giselbach, made an announcement at our meeting.  They have moved into an adorable retirement apartment. No more cutting grass!  Their new address is Huntington Court, Apt. 21, 4115 S. Lee St., Buford, 30518

Their new telephone #678-546-8722.  They have moved a little further from our Senior

Center but close enough to continue their leadership here with us. Let’s join in to send Best Wishes and much Happiness to Eileen & Bob in their new home!

With no additional new business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned.

Shortly after Al adjourned the meeting, the Field Games Venue Managers had a short meeting to discuss how to run the field games without confusion this year.

The main points we covered were:

 1) the time; all games start at 9:00 a.m.

2) Report to Venue Manager to sign in.  They will have a list of all their participants.

3) Participant goes directly to the sport that he/she signed up for and stay until they complete their turn  (no set times)

4) Medals will be given out at the end of the event.

The managers voted and all were in favor of the changes.  The meeting ended 11:30 a.m.

                                                            Respectively Submitted,

                                                            Marie Hickman, Secretary
