Gwinnett Senior Golden Olympics 2006
Meeting Minutes 12/18/06
Our President, Al Sandham, called the meeting to order. Eileen gave her treasurer report. The balance was $4677.74. Al added that Gwinnett Health Systems has sent a 2007 donation of $750. Eileen also brought to our attention that our freezer that we purchased awhile ago needed repair. We had a choice to spend $60 for service or purchase a new one (around $400). Al made a motion that we try to repair it, go with the maintenance of H&H Gregg (where we bought it). If the cost is too much to repair, we will talk about a new one. Doug seconded the motion. All agreed.
Walton EMC changed their contributions to a “Round up program” giving grants. Al is preparing an application for a request for a grant of $5000. Doug announced that the PGA Super Store will give $25 gift certificates to all tennis and golf players. The Golf event will be held at Château Elan this year. Dana also announced the Chateau Elan will donate “One Free Night Stay at the Hotel” as one of our fabulous prizes. Because our brochure is being printed at this time, 2006 contributors will be listed in the brochures.
Susie suggested making note on record that in December 2006 our treasurer books were audited. All proved satisfactory but the auditor said we need more receipts, to use the credit card and checks for all expenditures.
Since we are now operating the Olympics as a fully approved Charity recognized by the IRS, all sponsors will be protected by tax exempt donation status on a permanent basis.
About our storage space, it has been vacated. It was mentioned that some of our equipment will be held at Rhodes Jordan Park. Al feels it should be together in one storage area at Bethesda. A final location was not announced by the County.
New announcements: There will be no running event.
All the venues for our Olympics have managers. Thank you for volunteering. There is always room for more volunteers. So if you would like to be a part of our Volunteer Group, please call our office. One of the Board of Directors will call you back.
The National Senior Games will be held in Louisville, KY. June 22 thru July 8. There will be no conflict with our 2007 game dates.
A committee was chosen to decide on a Olympic pin to be an item received by all our participants. Doug and Al mentioned some prices and styles and the committee of 3 including Diane Knight will make their decision by the January Meeting.
We are hoping to receive a written agreement from Longhorn for our 2 meals chosen for opening and closing ceremonies by early January.
George Pierce Park has opened their doors to a beautiful Senior Facility. The Ribbon Cutting was December l5, 2006. All are welcome to attend their activities. It is a little further if you live south of our Bethesda Center, but is worth the drive to visit even if you just go to see the beautiful fireplace. It is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. So go take a look!
Starting January we will be able to practice horseshoes and shuffleboard for the Olympics here at Bethesda and also once a month at our Sports Club at Delmar Gardens.
Al has just become involved with FOGS. It is the Meals on Wheels program for our Gwinnett Co. Seniors. If you would like to be a volunteer, please call Al.
Charles made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Dana seconded it. Wishing you from all of us at the Gwinnett Seniior Center, a Beautiful Holiday and a Very Happy New Year.
Sincerely,
Marie Hickman, Secretary
