Gwinnett Senior Golden Olympics Meeting Minutes

October 17, 2005

10:00 A.M.

Our President, Al Sandham, called the meeting to order promptly at 10:00.

Bob Giselbach, Eileen’s husband, gave the treasurer’s report. $7,918.55.  Eileen was visiting their son at the hospital.  Our prayers go out to the Giselbach family and wish him a complete recovery.

New business – Bob and Al visited the Jewish Center that sponsored the Atlanta Olympics. They had about 500 people to participate and had a very successful year.  We need to raise money and get more sponsors so that our attendance will grow.  Spread the word about our website.

We need to do more mailings. We will check with the Post Master for bulk mailings and cheaper postage. Remember, anyone that signs up for the Olympics is a voting member.

Susie Dodson gave Al the general rules to be followed for the games and he read them at the meeting. They will be posted for everyone to read so that there will not be any misunderstandings at the event. Medals will be given out at the end of each event. Also, we discussed other topics like what to do with the medals when people leave the event early; should we give ribbons for the 4th, 5th and 6th place like the state competition does, and should there be a participating ribbon for everyone that comes out and tries?  We are checking on the price of ribbons and will discuss it at a later meeting.

Jan requested that we order some smaller T-shirts for the event. Al said that we would and showed a sample of the logo. They will be given out at the opening ceremony only.

We discussed our bowling event.  The bowling will be held at highway #29 Brunswick Alleys, single and double games.

We have some new venue managers. Linda volunteered for the remaining field games.

Fred volunteered for Badminton and a new person to our center, Phyllis Rosenthal, volunteered for the table games or the walking event, wherever she is needed the most.  Welcome Phyllis! There are still more positions needed to be filled. So come join us!

If anyone wants to learn archery there will be classes. Please call Al for details.

Good News!!!!   The Senior Center will be open on Sundays from 9-2 .  You can practice Shuffleboard, etc. and also some evenings from 5-7 p.m. Call Pam or Helen for hours.

Don’t forget our once a month outing at Ronald Reagan Park for fun and games. It’s the third Wednesday of the month for our Sports Club. I mentioned a $1 charge in the minutes last month, but Pam said the center will pay any expenses involved with this event. She just wants everyone to come out and have fun. So come join us!

Al wanted to finalize the dates for each event.  So we got out our calendars and start picking dates.  We will post the dates for your knowledge shortly.

Bob talked about the model train village.  Thanksgiving evening it will be set up at the Court House.  If you have any grandchildren or children that love trains, don’t miss this display.  It’s worth the trip!

Circle this date!!!!  October 28th the Health Fair 9-12 at the Bethesda Senior Center.

There was no further business to discuss.  Our President adjourned the meeting.

Respectfully Submitted,
