Gwinnett Senior Golden Olympics 2007
Minutes of Meeting 10/16/06
Our President, Al Sandham called our meeting to order promptly at 10:00 A.M. Our attendance was good.
The Board had a prior meeting at 9:00 A.M. to discuss any changes we may want to have our participants vote on or discuss at our scheduled monthly meeting.
Our treasurer, Eileen gave her report. Our balance is $5951.29.
We are now operating the Olympics as a fully approved Charity as recognized by the IRS.
For those that are new to our Senior Olympics, all participating Athletes are members and will have all voting privileges of the organization. Our Board of Director Members are:
President Al Sandham
Vice President H. D. (Doug) Jones
Secretary Marie Hickman
Treasurer Eileen Giselbach
Historian Suzie Dodson
Members at Large Dana Dow & Bob Giselbach
We discussed the dates of our 2007 Olympics. Opening day is Friday, April 20th and closing will be Saturday May 19th. We are trying a Saturday this year to see if it attracts more Seniors that are working during the week.
For those interested in the Atlanta Games, their dates are May 17th to May 23rd.
National Senior Games will be held in Louisville, KY, June 22 thru July 8. Dianne Knight asked if the County would provide a bus for the Athletes that want to compete at Nationals. That will need to be discussed with Pam.
Our President suggested all venues be defined and their venue managers assigned by the November meeting. Many of our venue managers will be returning this year but there is always room for new volunteers, so please call the center and leave your name and telephone number if you want to join us. We would love to have you. Someone from the board will contact you. If we can get this information in order, hopefully our brochure will go to print and finished by early December.
New Business - Frank Deremer asked if we could get a Senior Golden Olympic Pin for each participant. Everyone thought that was a great idea and Al will look into it.
Bob Giselbach suggested we change the Shuffleboard game plan so that everyone will not have to wait for hours to finish play-off games. Everyone was in favor of that. Rachel suggested we add Bridge to our lists of games and Heather suggested Running. If we get enough participants to sign up for them, we are in favor of adding these games.
We are also making changes for the football throw and Frisbee throw, possibly move them inside. The menu will be different for our opening and closing meetings. We now have a food committee to pick out something new and delicious. Also Bob will be our medal chairman handling all the distributing of gold, silver and bronze medals. Prizes will be better than last year if that is at all possible. Changes! Changes! Changes! To make this 2007 Olympic Event more fun and exciting for you!
Our address list needs to be revised. Many of our seniors have changed their addresses and phone numbers. If you happen to be one of them, please call the Senior Center and leave your name and number and someone will call you back or drop us a note; Senior Olympics, P.O. Box 2312, Buford, GA 30515.
We had a great 2006! But we are striving to make 2007 BETTER!
See you at our next monthly meeting November 20, 2006!!!!
P.S. There will be a board meeting at 9:00 November 13, 2006 for Board members.
