Gwinnett Senior Golden Games Meeting
January 21, 2008
Bob, our President, called our meeting to order. He welcomed all our members, followed by a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag.
The minutes of the last meeting were read. There was a correction made and we then went on to the treasurer’s report. Eileen reported our balance is $6,699.48. She is pleased with the promises that are coming in for donations to our senior games. Eileen feels we should mention the senior games to our doctors, financial advisers, people we come in contact with; you never know who has an interest in keeping seniors healthy and happy. Wal-mart will be helping us again this year. There is Wal-mart and a Wal-mart Foundation. It was brought to our attention that they are different. The Senior Council gave us $500. For anyone that is interested in joining, it meets the 3rd Thursday of every month. On April 17th at 1:30 P.M. we will be setting up a table along with many others to get information about these organizations.
We are already looking ahead for the Opening and Closing Event Dates for 2009. Pam told us we need to set aside the dates we want. Her calendar is filling up.
The registration form has changed this year. Instead of boxes, you will need to circle the events you want to participate in. Please advise us if you would like to be a volunteer. We will need many to assist in the games. We want to thank Hank for going to the County and asking them to make repairs to our Bocce Ball pits at Ronald Reagan Park.
They are making them better for us and will be ready for our games.
The booklets are printed; they need binding at this time. We need them by February 1st.
Please list on the sheet where you will be distributing the booklets and how many you will need. We have 1200 booklets. We want to thank Pam for paying for the printing.
The 4 keys to storage at Rhodes Jordan Park were given to Doug, Susie, Chris and Eileen
If you need to get into storage for any reason, call any of the four listed.
The food committee met this morning before this meeting and has decided on the menu.
We will again have Longhorn for the opening meeting serving you a choice of pork loin or chicken with mashed potatoes and vegetable. And for the closing we will be trying something different, Firehouse Subs. Bob opened the floor for comments and discussion. Everyone seemed to be pleased with it so we are going with it. All our drinks will be donated by the Life Care Center.
The t-shirts are all in. We have different colors but we are getting them for free so we are very happy with what we received. There will be no venue managers’ shirts this year. Everyone will wear the same shirt.
Chris will be the collector of the results. So managers, please send your results to him, ready to be posted. We will need the accumulation of the Final Winners for the Web Page. Our name will remain Senior Olympics on the Web page.
Eileen brought up the File for Life. Everyone should carry one. Just let her know at the next meeting if you need one. She had some extras. They are free & could save your life
There wasn’t any more business to discuss so Bob adjourned the meeting. Our next meeting will be February 18th.
Sincerely
Marie Hickman, Secretary
